AKC Registration Type

What registration type is my puppy? What does each registration type entail? There are two types of AKC registrations, limited registration and full registration. Only the breeder of your puppy can assign which registration type your puppy will have. At pickup day of your pup, you will be handed an AKC puppy packet that has the AKC Dog Registration Application in it. You can personally decide whether or not you would like to register your individual puppy with the AKC. Here at Ivory Lake Labradors we offer a limited registration for your puppy.

Limited Registration

Limited Registration certificates are white with an orange border. Limited Registration means that your individual dog is AKC registered, but that we do not hand over any right for you to be able to AKC register a litter of puppies produced by your dog. That would put you in direct competition with our business which wouldn't be a smart business move on our part. On your AKC Dog Registration Application form, you will see the Registration Type box darkened to show that you have limited registration access. Your dog will still be able to compete in all AKC licensed events, just not the breeding ones.

Full Registration

The Full Registration certificate is white with a purple border. A fully registered dog will also come at a higher price tag than a limited registered dog.  This gives you full breeding rights to produce a registered litter with the AKC. This also gives you access to AKC breeding competitions.  On the Dog Registration Application, the Registered Type box will NOT be darkened to show that you have full registration rights.
